In April, I was at my second job when I had a stroke and was rushed into Beth Israel. Because of the stroke, I was admitted to stay there for several days, and as a result I had no pay from my work as a personal care attendant, or from my second job. The day after I was released from the hospital I returned to my job as a personal care attendant because I needed the income to pay bills and support my household.

If paid family and medical leave had been in place, I would have had some time to stay home and recover. I’m thankful for my family’s support, but I wish I had be able to take some time to stay home and feel 100% better.
